Fit for all
The new Mira Mode digital shower works with every type of water system and even includes an app to help installers with the more technical elements. Paul McGuire outlines how to fit it.
A vailable in both single and dual outlet options, for both high pressure and pumped systems, Mira Mode is designed to suit every water system and style preference. There is also an additional remote control enabling the user to switch the shower on or off from outside the showering area included as standard. The following step-by-step installation guide will help you install the Mira Mode Dual Digital shower.
1 First, secure the digital mixer valve to its base. At this stage, it is recommended that the hot and cold supply pipework is flushed through to remove any potential debris. Then connect the hot and cold water supplies and the outlet connectors to the valve using the push-fit isolators supplied.
2 To connect the coupler cable, remove the anti-tamper plate and rubber grommet from the valve. Fit the grommet over the cable, then connect the cable to the valve, inserting the grommet into the socket to provide a watertight connection. Reinstate the anti-tamper plate to secure the grommet and coupler cable in place. The electrical connection should be a 3A switched fused spur. It is recommended that the cable for the user interface is fed within a suitable conduit.
3 Ensure that there is enough height between the ceiling and the incoming supply for the slide rail to be located. For dual outlet configurations – as here – a minimum of 35mm should be left between the deluge supply and the ceiling.
4 The bottom bracket of the shower slide rail incorporates the right-angled connector to which the shower hose will be attached. Using a pipe slice, trim the pipework back to between 31 and 34mm from the wall. To install the right-angled connector, mark, drill and secure the back plate using the screws provided, taking care so as not to damage any concealed pipework while doing so. Assemble the right-angled hose connector and twist and lock into place.
5 To install the shower fittings, measure 621mm from the top screw of the right-angle connector and mark a fixing hole for the top supports. Fix the top slide rail support, fit the chrome cover over the elbow assembly and tighten the screw anti-clockwise to secure into place.
6 Next assemble all the components onto the slide bar and fit the assembly into position. Once happy, remove the slide bar assembly and tighten the screw on the reverse of the top support to secure the slide rail into position. Then refit the slide bar assembly and secure into place with the Allen screw provided. Fit the cap to the top of the slide bar. Flush the pipework to remove any debris and connect the handset and hose, using the rubber washers provided to make the watertight seal each end.
7 Again using a pipe slice, trim the supply pipework back to 18mm from the wall surface. Using the back plate as a template, mark and drill the wall, and fix into place. Put the 15mm olive and compression nipple over the outlet pipe and tighten the nipple to form a watertight seal.
8 Fit the concealing shroud, compression nut and olive onto the shower arm and slot the arm assembly into the nipple, ensuring that the deluge connection is facing straight down. Tighten the 22mm compression nut, taking care to support the compression nipple with an additional spanner. Hand-tighten the concealing shroud onto the back plate.
9 Before fitting the deluge head, flush the pipework through to remove any possible debris and fit the necessary flow regulator and filter as recommended in the instructions. Then screw on the deluge head, using a wrench to fully tighten.
10 Using the template supplied, drill the user interface fixing points, then drill a 30mm hole to house the user interface connections. Fix the back plate to the wall and, having located the user interface cable from the conduit in the wall, connect the cable on the back of the user interface to the cable from the valve, concealing the supply cable in the cavity of the wall.
11 Push the interface into the back plate – top first – making sure to press the button on the bottom to click the user interface into place. Having done so, the final connection can be made at the mixing valve by connecting the user interface cable to the coupler cable. Making sure that it’s on a flat, even surface, mark the centre position where you want to install the on/off button with an obvious vertical line. This needs to be located to retrieve the user interface cable from wall cavity.
12 Taking care not to damage the user interface cable within the wall cavity, drill a 30mm hole through the finished wall surface. Then retrieve the digital valve cable from the wall cavity. Next, using the cleaning wipe supplied, clean the surface around the mounting hole leaving the marked vertical line. Remove the adhesive back from the button, then connect the cable to the on/off button, pushing the grommet into place to prevent water ingress.
13 Align the ‘on’ symbol to the line on the wall using the vertical line applied earlier. Having done so, the final connection can be made at the mixing valve by connecting the user interface cable to the coupler cable.
Remote control One dynamic feature of the Mira Mode is that it can be set up and controlled via a free-to-download smartphone app. For the commissioning installer, a crucial benefit of this app is the ability to configure outletswith it. This means pipework can be installed as convenient and removes the need for awkward additional work – such as passovers – when trying to align with existing pipework. If the outlets are incorrectly connected, they can be stitched via the app at the touch of a button.
